What exists nowhere else on the island: glamping domes with private pools. That is the reason to come here rather than elsewhere. These are not improvised tents but geodesic domes built to last, and the experience is the selling point — several guests come only for that.

On site: two heated pools — one for adults, one for children, which is rare on Siquijor — private beach access, a restaurant and bar with live music, massages, and snorkelling, diving, canoeing and kayaking arranged from the beach. 24-hour front desk, free wifi and parking, port or airport shuttle for a fee.

Our reservations, and the first one is structural. You are isolated: Sandugan is the far side of the island from San Juan, away from the restaurants and the sights, and you need a scooter or you depend on the hotel. Second, and it catches many guests out: outside food and drink are not allowed — you eat on site, at the house price. Then low water pressure and, reported by several guests, damp or mould in some units: in the tropics, a fabric dome needs constant upkeep.

Who it is for. Anyone who wants a night they will talk about — sleeping under a dome with its own pool — and who accepts being far from everything. For a base to explore the island daily, choose the west coast.
