Tugkaran Food Stuff
4GX3+2XR San Juan Siquijor
Opening hours : 7.00 à 19.00
If you want to discover local cuisine, this is the place to come!
Several pots await you with Filipino specialities finely cooked by the hostess in the house behind the restaurant.
Dishes start at 20P and none costs more than 100P.
This is THE place to go for a cheap meal.
Note: the sign has changed. The concept has not moved an inch: it is still the same local canteen in San Juan, at the same prices, with the same cook. We will update the new name once it is confirmed. In the meantime, do not look for Tugkaran on the front, look for the pots.
How it works: several large pots wait for you, filled with Filipino dishes cooked that same morning in the house behind the restaurant. You lift the lids, look, point, and sit down. This is the carinderia format, the Filipino equivalent of a neighbourhood soup kitchen.
The prices, which are the real reason to come: dishes start at 20 ₱ and none goes above 100 ₱. A full meal with rice will cost you less than a coffee at a resort on the coast. It is the cheapest address we recommend on the island.
Hours: 7am to 7pm according to the house, while a mapping database says 6am. Either way the principle holds: the best window is between 11am and 1pm, when every pot is full. Late in the day the choice narrows to whatever is left.
On the circumferential road, in San Juan. One number circulates in public databases: +63 927 597 8251.
Cash only, and small notes if you can.
