Lovez Food House is a small, no-frills turo-turo — Filipino for a "point-point" canteen, where the day's dishes are laid out ready-made and you simply point at what you want. It sits in the middle of San Juan, easy to walk straight past if you don't know it's there.

The best canteen in San Juan, by some distance. That is our view and we stand behind it: if you are on a small budget and you want to eat well, this is where to go.

Let us be clear about what it is. Lovez Food House is not comfortable. There is no decor, no view, no terrace facing the sunset. But it is clean, and it is delicious. Those are the only two things that matter in a canteen, and plenty of prettier places fail on both.

How it works: family Filipino cooking, made fresh each day, served on a plate with rice. You look at what is ready, you choose, you sit down. No sprawling menu, no twenty-minute wait: the dish is already cooked.

Who it is for: budget travellers who want to fill up properly, people staying several weeks who cannot eat a 400 ₱ dinner every night, and anyone who wants to eat what the people of San Juan actually eat.

Why it is invisible online: Lovez appears on no platform, in no guide, on no aggregator. Its owners do not deal with social media and have no reason to. It is an address that travels by word of mouth, among locals. We publish it because it deserves to be known.
