Nakabalo Restaurant 🇫🇷
5G35+FV2 San Juan Siquijor
One of the island's best-known and most popular addresses!
The must is a sunset cocktail in the pool, followed by a delicious meal.
The menu below.
4.5/5 on close to 300 Google reviews, second of San Juan's 33 guesthouses on TripAdvisor. Nakabalo sits high above Cang-obao, in Maite, and that is the whole difference: the infinity pool opens onto 180 degrees of sea, making it one of the best sunset points on the west coast.
A detail worth knowing: French is spoken at reception. English, French and Filipino, which is rare on the island.
The pool is open to non-residents for 1,000 ₱, part of which converts into food and drinks. Sources disagree on the exact amount returned (500 or 600 ₱), so have it confirmed on arrival.
What to order: the menu is mostly Italian. The homemade gnocchi is the most cited dish, along with the pizzas and pasta. On the local side, the kinilaw. There is also a blue cheese burger and a selection of French wines, something you will not find elsewhere on Siquijor. Jessie and Ryza run the kitchen, Mark and Leah the front desk; guests name them personally in reviews.
Opening hours: 7am-9pm according to the official site, 8am-9pm according to Google. No closing day reported.
Access: this is the point to plan for. The climb from the main road is steep and some tricycles refuse it. The beach is 910 metres away, about ten minutes on foot or two by scooter. Free parking on site, cards accepted, wifi, air conditioning.
Our honest take: the restaurant's own listing sits at 4.4/5 with 12 % of reviews at one or two stars, which is real. Recurring complaints: uneven kitchen output (a tuna steak comes up repeatedly as too salty), slow service and order mix-ups. Bring repellent, there are mosquitoes in the plantation.
