Cambugahay Falls: the classic
Four turquoise basins stepping down through jungle, numbered 1 to 4 from the bottom up. Basin 1 has the highest jumps (at least 5 metres), Basins 2 and 3 are gentler (about 1 metre) and suit families, and Basin 4 is home to the rope-swing "fairy walk" that went viral in 2025. Each rope swing costs ₱50 with unlimited jumps, and each basin has a different owner. A bamboo raft is ₱50 per person at Basins 1 and 3. Arrive before 8 to 9am for fewer people and clearer water, and wear water shoes: the rocks are slippery.
Lagaan Falls: similar swim, fewer people
Just off the Circumferential Road in Lazi, about 20 to 30 minutes from San Juan by scooter or tricycle. The lower level has a large, deep pool with a rope swing, a natural rock slide and a few small caves; a short scramble higher leads to smaller, cooler rock pools. Tables and hammocks near the entrance make it easy to spend a few hours.
Locong Falls: peaceful and short
About 25 minutes by scooter from San Juan. Park near the barangay hall and walk roughly 100 metres up a narrow, rocky trail. There are no vendors, changing rooms or restrooms, so bring a towel, water and snacks. The water is clear enough for light snorkelling with a mask, and there are natural jacuzzi-style pockets beyond the Tarzan swing. A local guide is available for an optional tip of around ₱50.
Lugnason Falls: easy and close to San Juan
A roughly 5-metre drop into a natural pool, about 15 minutes on foot along a clearly marked dirt trail. Mornings are best for photos with the pool to yourself. Adventurous visitors can ask about the guided Zodiac Falls trek upriver, past around twelve smaller cascades, roughly 30 to 40 minutes of wet-rock scrambling; a local guide is essential.
Cangbangag Falls: for experienced riders
In the hills between Larena and Maria, commonly cited among the tallest on the island (estimates over 30 metres, no official measurement). The access road is unsignposted and rough, so only experienced, confident riders should attempt it, asking locals for directions. Allow about 1 to 1.5 hours from the main road plus a steep, slippery 15 to 20 minute walk down, so plan half a day. Not suited to small children or anyone unsteady on their feet.
Which one should you pick?
First visit and you want the iconic shots: Cambugahay, early. A similar swim without the crowd: Lagaan. Something short and quiet: Locong or Lugnason. A real adventure: Cangbangag, or the Zodiac Falls trek. Fees are small and can change, so carry small notes.
